A former plotland area on a south-facing slope alongside the A13 in Thundersley that has 'tumbled down' to woodland and scrub. This is mainly hawthorn and oak with a scattering of birch and hornbeam, but it also has a patch of ancient woodland, near the south-west corner, with coppiced hornbeam trees, bluebells and lesser celandine.
With its large pond and some sunny clearings and marshy hollows, it attracts a variety of resident and migrant birds and is a good place for insects in summer. .
Visiting
Access from the A13 in Thundersley, with parking in local streets.
Regular bus services between Basildon and Southend run along the A13.
Accessible at all times.
May for woodland flowers and birdsong.
